Removing the DPF from the Mondeo to try and reverse flush it (it’s partially blocked). It sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t but its worth a try.

I’ve never had a DPF-equipped car, mainly because of hearing all the horror stories about them, but have people come up with some sensible solutions yet?

From what I’ve heard you can get good results washing them out with xylene - and that stuff’s cheap in big bottles from chemical supply houses, instead of ridiculously expensive in tiny bottles as a ‘fuel additive’.

They’re an utter pain and as much of a pain as they were when they first came out. Thanks for the tip, I'm starting with heated distilled water and going from there.

Please tell me you’re not working under a car supported only by a jack.

Na there’s two jack stands under it, wouldn’t want this heavy thing coming down on me.

I’m not quite sure what’s inside, but if all else fails you could try chucking it on a fire until it gets hot enough to burn the deposits.

Then again, I had a look just now and the replacements are much more reasonably priced than I remembered.

Yeah aftermarket replacements are getting pretty reasonable, if this doesn’t fix it I might go down that route.
